Church History

Southside Baptist Church was started in 1996 by a handful of believers in the Milwaukee area. A storefront location on National Avenue was the first location. Baptisms were held in a member's yard utilizing a livestock water tank. As more space was needed the church moved to the Clarion Hotel near the Milwaukee airport. Each week, dedicated members would load and unload many supplies needed into rented banquet rooms for Sunday service. Baptisms were held in the hotel pool. A Sunday School class was even held in the parking lot on one of the church busses. The newly created Southside Baptist School remained at the storefront location. A church building at 81st and Becher was eventually rented, and housed the church and school for a time. Enough funds were finally gathered, and our current location was purchased in the fall of 2001 

The first service at this location was held September 23rd, 2001.

Stanley McIntrye was the first Senior Pastor, Larry Borner was the first Assistant Pastor. Pastor McIntyre was also the Principal of the School.

Classrooms were rented from a nearby church to provide classroom space for the school.

After 20 years, Pastor McIntyre retired in 2106 and Chris Borner filled the Pulpit Ministry until 2018, when the church called Pastor Gerwitz to be the Senior Pastor. Upon the retirement of Pastor McIntyre, the church voted to confer the lifetime title of Pastor Emeritus upon him as a token of it's esteem for his many years of service.
